At the German Innovation Award in Berlin, the joint project “GWF Balance Decision Support Tool: Blending Fundamentals and Innovation to Reduce Leakage Volume in South West Water UK” was awarded in two categories:
The double award underlines a key trend in the water industry: Digital technologies and data-based decisions are becoming crucial factors for sustainable and resilient infrastructures.

The GWF Balance Decision Support Tool combines established water balance methods with AI-supported decision support. The goal is to identify leakage volumes more precisely, set priorities more efficiently, and deploy resources more effectively.
This provides utility companies with a sound basis for reducing water losses more sustainably and optimizing operational processes based on data.
Together with South West Water, the project demonstrates how digital analytics tools can create tangible added value for water and energy management. The intelligent analysis of network and consumption data not only supports increased efficiency but also contributes to the more sustainable operation of critical infrastructure.
Particularly noteworthy is the award in two different categories: It confirms both the degree of innovation of the AI methods used and the practical contribution of the project to sustainable energy and water solutions.
For GWF this award is not the end of a project, but a further step towards intelligent, resilient and data-driven water infrastructures.
The successful use of modern analysis and decision-making systems shows how digital technologies can help utility companies to cope with challenges such as water losses, increasing sustainability requirements and efficient resource use in the long term.
Special thanks go to all the teams, partners and project managers involved who made this success possible.
