Do you require expert advice on the design of your measuring point or on selecting the appropriate measuring technology?

Our team of experts will provide you with qualified support in analyzing your requirements and selecting the optimal solution for your application. Our consulting services include the professional design of the measuring point, the selection of suitable communication technology, and the implementation of data-driven software solutions for operational optimization and increased efficiency of work processes. Furthermore, we are happy to offer you comprehensive advice on all aspects of operating your systems.

Our service technicians and ICT specialists professionally implement and commission your system solutions for water, gas, electricity and heat. We also provide professional on-site support to water, gas, and district heating suppliers during their annual meter replacements.

We provide comprehensive support for your smart meter rollout, from initial concept to successful implementation. During the consultation phase, we present suitable technologies and solutions. Together, we define the relevant use cases for your metering infrastructure in the implementation specification. Our engineering team and experienced service technicians then conduct pilot projects and establish a proof of concept. During the rollout, our project managers ensure a smooth and timely implementation. Following successful acceptance testing, we seamlessly hand over the metering infrastructure to the operational team.

Do you have a question about measurement technology? Or a challenge at a measuring point? We are here for you and look forward to hearing from you.

Our specialists in measurement technology, data communication, and water and energy network operation are happy to discuss your technical needs with you. An initial consultation is free and without obligation – If we can be of any assistance, we have numerous support options available.

We overhaul, calibrate, and verify meters for water, gas, and heat using our expert personnel and test benches. A comprehensive fleet of loaner meters is available during the overhaul, and we can handle the entire exchange process upon request.

We are a calibration laboratory accredited according to EN ISO/IEC 17025 and a state-approved verification body for gas, water, and heat meters. We ensure that all measuring instruments used in billing transactions fully comply with the legally prescribed approval and verification requirements.

With the GWF Academy, you can expand your expertise through free webinars and a wide range of further training opportunities. Upon request, we also develop customized training courses and workshops that are precisely tailored to your needs.

Demonstrating a measurable efficiency improvement after a refurbishment requires before-and-after flow measurement accurate enough to detect the expected gain — often a few percentage points — against the backdrop of normal operating variation. International standards IEC 60041 and ASME PTC 18 define the test procedures and acceptable measurement uncertainty for this purpose, and flow measurement is the central variable from which efficiency is derived. To serve this purpose GWF developed DUCTUS, a multi-path ultrasonic flow measurement system used in refurbishment verification projects on hydropower penstocks worldwide.

A gradual leak in a penstock causes a measurable discrepancy between flow entering and leaving the pressure pipe, but detecting it requires continuous, high-accuracy flow data — not periodic manual checks. Multi-path ultrasonic systems installed permanently in the penstock provide the real-time discharge data needed to identify abnormal flow conditions early and trigger protective action before a small leak develops into a catastrophic rupture. To serve this purpose GWF developed DUCTUS, which supports continuous pipe rupture and leak detection monitoring in pressurised hydropower conduits.

Run-of-river plants divert flow from a natural river channel into a canal or headrace, and accurately measuring that intake flow is essential for water rights compliance, efficiency calculation, and ecological minimum flow management. Transit-time ultrasonic systems installed across the intake channel measure the full velocity profile continuously without obstructing flow or requiring civil modifications to the channel structure. To serve this purpose GWF offers KANALIS for run-of-river intake channel measurement, covering channels from 1 to 100 metres wide and complying with ISO 6416.

Water authorities in most countries require hydropower operators to continuously measure and record the minimum flow released downstream of their intake structures to protect river ecosystems, and this data must be available for regulatory inspection. Permanent ultrasonic transit-time systems installed in the bypass channel or downstream release point provide the continuous, tamper-evident flow record needed to demonstrate compliance. To serve this purpose GWF offers KANALIS for open bypass channels and DUCTUS for pressurised release pipes, both used in ecological flow monitoring applications worldwide.
